Ryker and his family all come together when Wish Dad, Ryan returns home from training with the South Dakota Army National Guard and Ryker's wish is granted for a Rainbow Play System.
Strength is a word used to describe perseverance, determination, and support. When it comes to strength, Ryker and his family define the term. His medical condition is one that affects only 8 people per million, per year. The condition known as Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis or ADEM has caused Ryker to lose his ability for some everyday functioning such as eating and speaking. Wish parents Sarah and Ryan are mother and father to 3-year old Ryker and his 7-year old brother, James.
Ryan is a member of the South Dakota Army National Guard or SDANG and cannot always be home due to training and other commitments. His time away can be very difficult for him as well as the family. He and his family were reunited with Ryan after he had been away at training for a few months and on the same weekend, Make-A-Wish®South Dakota granted Ryker's wish for a Rainbow Play System. They were overcome with emotion in seeing their father and also very excited to have received their new play set so that the whole family could be together.
The support system that Ryker and his family have is also a significant source of strength. Their friends and other family members are always present for support and to help the family in any way possible. Through all of Ryker's medical treatments, difficulties and the family's hardships, they are persevering and above all else, maintaining that nothing is more important than family.
Ryker's wish was adpoted by: Sammons Financial Group in Sioux Falls.
