Jacob, a 16-year old from Sioux Falls, is a social, laidback teen with interests in music, video games, and aviation. With high school graduation quickly approaching, Jacob is on the receiving end of the frequently asked question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” After meeting with Jacob, Jacob’s wish granters learned that he pictured himself majoring in aviation once he graduates. Knowing this bit of information about Jacob, it wasn’t unforeseen when he wished to get his private pilot’s license.
Jacob’s family and friends gathered at his wish reveal party and he was completely taken by surprise. “I was shocked and it didn't register right away what was going on when everyone was at the airport,” Jacob shared. His wish reveal was complete with a flyover by one of the Vanguard pilots at Legacy Aviation in Tea, and he even got to sit in one of the planes for a sneak peek at what his flying lessons will be like. Jacob said he looks forward to getting his private pilot’s license, which will require that Jacob completes a minimum of thirty-five hours of flight time. Jacob said he knows that his wish will get him “a step ahead.”
Caron, Jacob’s mom, also believes that Jacob’s wish will be life-changing for him. “I think doing something that will help him reach his goal is the biggest part of this wish. He has a future and can do extraordinary things now, and he doesn't have to wait,” Caron said. Caron helps to point out the true impact of a wish on a wish kid. She continued, saying, “This past year has been challenging, but Jacob trusted his doctor when she said he could be anything he wanted to be. Now he can begin to do that!”
Jacob’s wish was made possible by Adopt-A-Wish partners Mark and Brenda Hitzemann. A special thanks goes out to them as well as Jacob’s wish granters and the team at Legacy Aviation, LLC (http://www.legacyaviationsd.com/
