Grace has a great imagination and loves to be outside. Like many 4-year-old girls, she loves toys, playing dress-up, and playing house. She enjoys spending time with her parents and siblings, especially her older sisters.
In May of 2016, Grace was diagnosed with leukemia. The future hospital visits and overnight stays left her with less time to do all of the things that she loves.
After being referred to Make-A-Wish® South Dakota and approved for a wish, wish granters soon found out that her true wish was to have a playhouse in her own backyard! She wished to have a place to be herself and an escape from the rest of the world. The wish granters exceeded her wildest expectations. This was not just any playhouse. This was a playhouse with a kitchen, living room, tables, chair, and more. It is perfect for Grace. It is a place for Grace to escape and enjoy all of the things that she loves.
During this year’s Black Hills Walk For Wishes in downtown Rapid City, Grace and the entire community got to see a glimpse of her playhouse. Grace’s mom, Lenorr, commented, “Being a part of Walk For Wishes was one of our favorite moments because we got to share the excitement with everyone.” Grace seemed pretty shy during the reveal, but she had an enormous grin on her face as she hugged her mom.
The next day, Grace was led to her backyard where her playhouse stood. She ran to a two-story, life-sized playhouse. It was wrapped with flowers on the window ledges and a customized welcome sign with Grace’s name on it. She could not wait to get inside and check out more. She stepped into the house only to find all of her favorite toys, wall decorations, pillows, an abundance of accessories, and more. There were even some cupcakes waiting for her. Her mother shared, “Grace knew that she was getting a playhouse, but she did not expect it to be that day.”
Grace has been enjoying her playhouse with her entire family. She loves to be able to spend time with her sisters where she feels safe. Grace and her family felt extremely humbled because of such a kind and generous community that they live in.
