6-year-old Caleb is a son, a brother, a friend, a hero, and a fighter. Caleb was born a fighter, but in October of 2016, he was faced with yet another battle: leukemia.
By the size of his smile, you wouldn’t know that Caleb was fighting this battle. Caleb’s mom, Melanie, says Caleb is “a true hero, fighting and overcoming every obstacle from open heart surgery to leukemia.” She shares that one of Caleb’s favorite things to do is go to the park to swing. The whole family was thrilled when they found out that Caleb would be getting a wish. Caleb’s parents knew that a Rainbow Play System would be the perfect wish for him, where he could go swing whenever his heart desired.
On the day that Caleb’s wish came true, his family and closest friends joined him in breaking in the new Rainbow play system—complete with a rock wall and monkey bars. Caleb loves going down the slide, but the special swing that is the perfect size for Caleb will likely be his favorite and most-used part.
Caleb and his family are so excited about all the memories his wish will provide them with. The play system “will help Caleb with his gross motor skills and strength training, and his wish will help give him the confidence he needs,” Melanie said. “It will provide a place to help build future friendships for him and his brothers.”
The day of Caleb’s wish was just as perfect as the family hoped it would be. Caleb’s smile, loving and silly personality, and strength will continue to shine as he spends time on his new play system. “We are so thankful for Make-A-Wish. Thank you for making something possible that we could never do for him,” Melanie shared.
Thank you to all those who helped make Caleb’s wish come true, including Caleb’s wish granters and Rainbow Midwest.
