To this 7-year-old, whose life revolves around princesses, fairy tales and Disney everything…where else would she want to go on her wish, but to a place where they all really live!
Meet Sera of Dakota Dunes, whose wish to go to Walt Disney World came true in March when she and her family flew from Sioux Falls to Orlando.
Sera came to the United States in January of 2009. Her new parents, Dave and Tana, were told she had already had one open-heart surgery in China. As a beautiful baby girl, she was left on a street corner in Fuzhou, China. Her adoptive parents think she was left due to her apparent health issues and her biological family being unable to care for her.
Sera faces Tetrology of Fallot, a congenital heart defect. After her first year in the U.S., she had an angioplasty and then required another full open-heart surgery.
Her parents said Sera’s positive attitude and smiles have been there from the start and continue to shine through on-going annual testing and physician visits.
During their wish trip in March, Sera loved meeting the characters at Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World. Meeting Ariel at Disney and feeding the dolphins at Sea World were highlights of her wish trip. She also had ice cream every morning for breakfast at Give Kids The World Village.
Dave and Tana summarize the impact of her wish best…
"Make-A-Wish® South Dakota has made such an incredible impact on our family, and in particular - the experience for Sera. We were all able to enjoy a completely stress-free vacation, which brought lots of laughs and smiles, all while watching Sera become the center of attention. To our little girl, who will continue to face medical challenges in her future, this experience will forever bring her beautiful memories."
Sera’s wish was made possible by Adopt-A-Wish® Partners Dr. Justin and Kristin Nichols of Sioux Falls.
