Max, 17, of Sioux Falls was granted his wish to attend BlizzCon in Anaheim, CA. As an avid fan of World of Warcraft, he was able to experience many gamers’ dream destination in November. This convention, which has around 25,000 attendees annually, usually sells out within the first few days. Max, who has been battling refractory epilepsy, an uncontrollable seizure disorder, was thrilled to be able to attend.
When Max arrived at BlizzCon, he was greeted and escorted as a VIP by the BlizzCon staff themselves. He was able to meet some of the developers and witness in person all the costumes, creativity, and amount of work it takes to pull off his favorite game. There was a costume competition where pieces were so elaborate and detailed, he couldn’t even start to think of how they were put together. Max was also able to view trailers and video promos for games and expansions that weren’t released to the general public at the time.
Aside from his incredible adventure at BlizzCon, Max was able to enjoy a day at Newport Beach, something the rest of South Dakota could only be envious of in November! This was his first time seeing the ocean. To add another magical touch, he was also given the opportunity to visit Disneyland Park!
When asked what Max’s favorite part of the trip was, his answer could be summed up as “everything”. Max was joined on his wish my his mom, dad and brother. His mom, Christine, stated that, “Never have I met more helpful and heartfelt people. I truly felt like my whole family was cared for, not just Max.”
Max’s family also shared: “I don’t think things could have gone better. Max had a great time! The volunteers were also amazing. They made the family feel cared for.”
Max’s wish was made possible by Adopt-A-Wish® Partner Al Bowden of Sioux Falls. Special thanks also to Make-A-Wish® Orange County and the Inland Empire and BlizzCon.
