Britt, 13, of Lemmon, is your typical teenager. He loves sports, especially basketball and football. His favorite teams are the Denver Broncos and Miami Heat. He also likes rodeos and to hunt. What’s not typical about Britt is that he faces a life-threatening medical condition, Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID). In common terms, his immune system doesn’t protect him from common viral and bacterial infections.
After brainstorming several ideas for a wish, Britt decided to wish to go on a Hawaiian cruise. His wish came true in May 2014.
Accompanied by his parents, sister and two brothers, Britt’s Hawaiian journey began by flying out of Rapid City. From there they arrived in Honolulu where they boarded the Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America
. Stops included Maui, Hilo, Kona and Kauia.
Highlights included deep sea fishing, snorkeling, swimming with a sea turtle, zip-lining and eating delicious Hawaiian food! While deep sea fishing he and his brothers caught four tuna and even a shark! Britt enjoyed all of the activities throughout his time there including playing volleyball, basketball and ping pong.
“We spent quality time building memories that will remain in our minds and hearts forever,” his mom, Colleen, said. “There are no words to express the thanks from our family.”
Britt’s wish was made possible by an anonymous donor and the Draper Making Kids’ Dreams Come True Fundraiser.
