Alison, 15, of Seneca celebrated the one-year anniversary of her successful kidney transplant on February 27th. Alison was diagnosed with Wegener’s disease which caused her kidneys to fail. Miraculousy her dad, Brian, was a match and donated one of his kidneys. She and her family celebrated Alison’s improved health together during her recent Make-A-Wish® trip to Hawaii.
Accompanied by her dad, Brian, mom, Colleen and younger sister, Loretta, Alison and her family had a trip they will always remember.
Alison said riding the horse named Shadrach at Kualoa Ranch was the highlight of her wish, but she also liked learning about and seeing the Valley of the Kings. She also enjoyed learning about Kualoa Ranch, their horses, what they do and how they care for the horses. Another highlight was having dinner on the Star of Honolulu sunset cruise and trying new foods at lots of different restaurants. During their time in Hawaii, Alison and her family also snorkeled, went to a luau and visited the Pearl Harbor Musuem and the Dole plantation.
"It was great to get away from doctor appointments and blood draws for awhile, and just relax and have fun with my family," Alison said.
Alison’s wish was made possible by Driving For Dreams® partners Ace Ready Mix and Myrl & Roy’s Paving in Sioux Falls. Pictured here is Alison and her mom with Ace Ready Mix and Myrl & Roy's Paving employees at their meet and greet.
