When Leah, 17, of Sherman, found out she was going to receive a wish, her nature known for “stealing the show” set in as she wished to become a model.
Upon meeting Leah it is easy to first identify that she has no shortage of spunk, and a personality that is contagious as well. Leah, however, has been dealing with an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), a heart condition, since birth.
With Leah's wish confirmed and the green light from her doctor, Leah and her family were invited to an Augustana University basketball game in Sioux Falls, where she was going to be surprised with her wish announcement. During halftime of the game, Leah was brought out onto the court, and told that her wish was going to come true with a trip to LA Fashion Week to become a model!
After a short period of time, Leah and her family were in the air and on their way to Los Angeles. During the first full day in LA was when Leah's wish came true. During her modeling adventure, she experienced a full-scale makeover with new outfits, and getting her hair and make-up done. With a new look, Leah took to the stage to strut her stuff down the runway. The whole experience was fantastic as Leah was in her element with no shortage of excitement.
Of course, after this day, Leah and her family had many more days to explore LA, and did so by taking pictures by the famous stars on the sidewalks of various celebrities, enjoying lots of good food, and spending a day at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Although the condition Leah has can be debilitating on any given day, make it be known that Leah chooses to be positive and full of life – an attitude worth rooting for, and one worth replicating.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Leah’s wish come true. A big thank you to Make-A-Wish Greater Los Angeles for assisting in this wish, and a special thank you to Friends like Family of Sioux Falls for adopting her wish.
