I will be graduating this December with a Bachelor of Business Administrations in Human Resource Management with a minor in Contemporary Media and Journalism. Right now I am working towards my wish of becoming Miss SD USA 2013.
Your connection with Make-A-Wish: I volunteer and help grant wishes in honor of my sister, Tanya, who has been cancer free for 12 years! She was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia in April 1994 and wished for a family vacation to Hawaii.
How long have you been a volunteer: Unofficially (16 years). Officially (2 years).
Why do you volunteer for Make-A-Wish? I saw the strength, hope and joy Make-A-Wish® gave to my sister and I want to help share the power of a wish® with other kids across South Dakota.
What is the best part of being involved with Make-A-Wish? I absolutely love getting to meet new people and learning their stories. I am inspired down the core by each and every wish kid I have met.
Tell us about a memorable wish experience: While in Hawaii, my sisters were in charge of watching me on the beach and their version of babysitting was to “bury” me in the sand!
If you could encourage someone who is thinking about volunteering for Make-A-Wish, what would you tell them? Do it! It’s the best gift you could ever give someone.
