Donna & Megan's Story

Wish Granters Donna & MeganJune 2012

Hometown: Harrisburg

About Donna & Megan:  Donna works at Construction Products & Consultants and Megan works in accounting at Midwestern Mechanical.  Donna serves on the Chapter’s statewide Wish Granting Committee.

How long have you been volunteers?
We started volunteering as a family 11 years ago.

Why do you volunteer for Make-A-Wish?
Donna:    I became a volunteer when my children were young as I wanted them to know volunteering.  This is something we could do as a family.  My son now lives in Oklahoma.  Volunteering with my daughter Megan makes these experiences all the more special to me.
Megan:  We started volunteering as a family.  My mom and I volunteer for Make-A-Wish® as something rewarding to do together and apart.

What is the best part of being involved with Make-A-Wish?
Donna:  I enjoy the fundraising and have met many new friends, but truly enjoy the wish granting and getting to know some pretty awesome kids that touch your heart forever.

Megan:
I love being a part of making children’s wishes come true.  At any level of volunteering, you can always see how what you are doing positively affects a child’s life.

Tell us about a memorable wish experience.
Donna:  I can’t.  Each child is so special and unique.

Megan:  There have been so many memorable experiences, that I could not even begin to choose one.  Each child is unique and touches a special place in your heart.  As a child grows, they may not remember me, but I am pretty positive that they will always remember the wish come true that Make-A-Wish and all its’ volunteers made happen.  For me to be a part of that, makes EVERY wish a memorable experience to me.

If you could encourage someone who is thinking about volunteering for Make-A-Wish, what would you tell them?
Donna:  Your heart will never feel warmer than when you go to a wish meeting and that child and family are so excited that you are there for “them” and to help a wish come true for “them”.  These kids and families go through so much and it is very humbling to be able to be a part of putting a Make-A-Wish star in their life!

Megan:  This is an organization where you truly SEE the difference you are making every day in a child’s life.  Whether it is the excitement of a wish to come or the memory of a wish come true, I truly believe that an impact has been made in each Make-A-Wish child’s life.  I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be involved and plan to continue for many years to come.
