How long have you been a volunteer?
I have been a Make-A-Wish® volunteer for a year and a half.
Why do you volunteer for Make-A-Wish?
I decided to become a wish volunteer because a good friend of mine received a wish a few years ago and I saw how it changed his life. He loved the outdoors so his wish was a shopping spree at Cabela's. The items he received from that shopping spree made the last few months of his life a lot more enjoyable for him.
What is the best part of being involved with Make-A-Wish?
The best part of being a volunteer is seeing the children's faces when they experience their wishes. It gives me goose bumps seeing how happy they are. They seem to forget about all the bad things that are going on in their lives, and I'm grateful they have that chance.
Tell us about a memorable wish experience.
I helped with a bedroom makeover for young girl on her eighth birthday. She arrived back to her home after going to Chuck E. Cheese's with some friends. She had no idea we were making over he bedroom. Words can't describe the look on her face when she entered her new room for the first time.
If you could encourage someone who is thinking about volunteering for Make-A-Wish, what would you tell them?
Being a volunteer with Make-A-Wish is an amazing and unforgettable experience. Not only do I get to help change the lives of children, but I also get to work with other amazing volunteers who help make granting wishes in the Black Hills a great success.
