FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SIOUX FALLS, November 7, 2017 – After a year off, Christmas at the Western Mall will be back, illuminating the center court area and entertaining thousands of guests this holiday season. The show, which benefits Make-A-Wish® South Dakota, runs Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day nightly from 5:30-9:30.
The inside location in the center court area allows spectators to comfortably enjoy five songs dancing through thousands of twinkling lights and a fenced in snowy yard with a 24-ft tall castle structure. The show runs about 15 minutes with a three minute intermission between sets. The overall show sponsor is Scheels, along with several other area businesses who helped make the display possible including the Western Mall, Henry Carlson Construction and Great Western Bank. Find out more at westernmallchristmas.com.
Free-will donations support Make-A-Wish South Dakota. Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. The wishes of more than 30 South Dakota children have come true from proceeds of the light display. Over 10 years the event has raised more than $225,000.
This year there will be several featured nights, which hopefully will draw even more people to the show. Visit westernmallchristmas.com and southdakota.wish.org for those details as show gets underway.
The show is organized by Joseph Noe, who originally had a show at his home in Crooks before it moved inside the Western Mall in 2010.
Last year Make-A-Wish South Dakota granted 72 wishes across the state and more than 1,300 since 1984. There are more than 70 kids in the process of receiving a wish. To qualify, children must be between the ages of 2 ½ and 18 and diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition at the time of referral. Find out more at southdakota.wish.org.
